Jordyn's new life with Mega heats up—until an ex, a baby, and a hitman dad bring chaos she never saw coming.
Mega’s client was a well known industry rapper waiting to get his back piece finished. Jordyn couldn’t believe it. She was actually up close and personal with a man she heard on the radio and saw on TV all the time. It made her wonder what other ties Mega had under his belt that she didn’t know about.
“This your lady?” his client asked.
Before answering, Mega looked to Jordyn for confirmation. Which she gave.
“Yeah.” He smiled.
“Congratulations, my guy. That’s a good looking girl right there.”
While Mega worked on his client, Jordyn kept herself occupied by sneaking pictures of him and scrolling through Facebook and Instagram. She wasn’t looking for anything specific until she came across Mila’s page and decided to see what she was really up against.
There wasn't anything interesting for her to look at. Except pictures of Mila and Mega and a picture of someone’s baby.
The fact that they looked so happy in their pictures put Jordyn in her feelings. She wanted to show him the pictures and ask questions about them, but seeing him working so hard on what he loved the most detoured her mind.
Oddly, she already knew not to ask him anything about his past with Mila. He seemed like the type to be done when he was done and that alone had to be enough for her.
“You hungry?” Mega asked after about three hours of tatting. “I’m starving.”
“Mmm, a little bit.” Jordyn thought about what she wanted to eat. “What do you want?”
“I don’t know. Something good. You hungry?” he asked his client.
“Hell yeah! I need a break too. You killing me, dawg.”
Mega was a great tattoo artist and an even better host. So whenever his clients wanted food, drink, weed, or liquor, he made sure he had it on deck and catered to their needs to keep them comfortable.
“My keys and wallet are right there," he said to Jordyn. "You wanna go grab us some grub?”
She was stuck. A man had never been so trusting of her before. He was actually giving her access to his car and his money, and that was a big deal for her.
“Uhh, ok," she said nervously as she picked up the keys to his tricked out Jeep.
“Be careful. If you see anything suspicious, call me."
“I will.” She called out behind her as she sashayed towards the exit to go feed her man.
Layton pulled off her gloves and jogged towards the door to catch Jordyn on her way out. Not only was she hungry too, but she wanted to catch up on that plan they were talking about before Mega interrupted.
If it was something good, she was all in. But if it was something dangerous or reckless, she was sure to tell Jordyn to think of something else.
“Ayo!” She shouted over the roaring of the engine just as Jordyn started to back out of the parking lot. “Hold up! Where you getting food from?”
“I don’t know. He didn’t even tell me what he wanted. He just said to get something good. What does he like?”
“Mexican and Chinese. If you get Mexican, get him beef tacos. If you get Chinese, get it from the mall. Spicy bourbon chicken, a side of steamed vegetables and fried chicken wings. Same thing for me.”
Layton's request worked out for all of them because Jordyn loved Chinese food from the mall too. When her mom was in the industry, they would have food court food almost every night for dinner.
“Ok. Got it. Same for the clients?”
“Yeah," Layton nodded. "Now, what’s up with your plan for Mila?”
“Well, I was thinking about reaching out to my dad. It's been forever since I talked to him, but he used to be a hitman back in the day. I haven’t spoken to him in a very long time so I don't know if I'll even be able to find him. But shit, I figure he owes me a favor.”
Layton looked confused and intrigued all at the same time. It was hard for her to believe a woman as beautiful and sincere as Jordyn had a hitman for a father. Then again, she didn't put shit past anyone.
“Well, damn. I guess you ain’t as wholesome and innocent as I thought you were.”
“Everybody’s got a past," Jordyn shrugged.
“You right about that," Layton said, curious to know who Jordyn really was. “Hurry back with that food.”
Leaving the parking lot of Mega's shop felt surreal for Jordyn. She couldn’t believe she was actually driving her boyfriend's Jeep. She couldn’t even believe she thought of him as her boyfriend. The feeling felt so right to her that she had to call her best friend, Kaylani, to fill her in on what was happening in her life. Something she never did because there was never anything extravagant happening. Until she met Mega.
“Hey girl! I got some shit to say."
“Jordyn!?” Kaylani sounded like she was in a panic.
“Yeah? What’s wrong?”
“I saw your dad a couple of days ago. Where the hell have you been and why haven't you been answering your phone?"
Jordyn felt her world come to a complete halt. She had just talked about her dad with Layton and immediately after, Kaylani told her that he was in town. Jordyn wasn't too big on superstitions, but what were the odds?
“Are you sure?" she asked, just to clarify. "It’s been a while since anybody has seen him. How do we know he still looks the same?”
“No, it was him," Kaylani said with certainty. "He pulled me in the alley and asked where you were. He said something about you being in some kind of trouble? What is going on, Jordyn?”
Jordyn was confused. She didn't know how her father knew about the trouble she was in with Polo or who told him.
She knew for a fact her mother didn't talk to him. So how he knew anything about her life was a mystery that needed to be solved. And quickly.
“I’ll have to tell you about it later," Jordyn said. "Long story short, Polo had some guys run up in my mom's house with guns because I went out with someone else. Polo and Mila, the bitch my new guy was with before me, are threatening to kill him and now I'm caught up in the mix."
“Well, who the hell is this new guy? Maybe you need to leave him alone before he gets you killed.”
“No. This guy is helping me. He even let me and Ma come stay at his house. Got her an in-home nurse and everything.”
“I’m worried about you, Jordyn. Especially after your dad told me what happened. Then when I saw you hadn't been to work or answering your phone, I got REAL worried.”
Jordyn loved Kaylani like she was her blood sister. Whenever trouble called, Kaylani was always there.
She was a little overbearing at times and Jordyn thought she could take a step back and let her figure out some things on her own, but their bond was tight and they were locked in for life. No matter what.
"I’m good, girl. I promise," Jordyn said. "I’ll have him bring me by to see you when he’s done working so you can meet him and see with your own two eyes that I am okay."
“Alright! Make sure you do. I don't wanna have to become best friends with your dad and fuck somebody up over you."
