CH 16 | DRAWN TO DANGER

Mega preps for a celeb client while tensions rise over betrayal, loyalty, and a dangerous plan to handle Mila once and for all.

Mega had a celebrity client coming through that afternoon. Whenever he worked with celebrity clients at the shop, he always locked everything down, just so there would be no liability issues. The only people he allowed in the shop during those times were himself and Layton. He trusted Layton with his life, so he knew damn well he could trust her with someone else's.

In the back of his mind, he kept thinking about Mila. He couldn’t believe she crossed him the way she did. Especially since she was the one in the wrong.

He usually wouldn’t tattoo with something so heavy on his mind, but that was why he brought Jordyn. She made him feel lighter and more focused. Something that he felt like he needed around more often.

“You ok?” She asked after noticing they were sitting in the parking lot for a while.

“Yeah.” He took a deep breath to calm his nerves. “Just getting myself together real quick.”

“Are you high? What’s the problem?” She was genuinely confused.

“No, I'm not high," he laughed. “This shit just got my head fucked up a lil bit.”

When Jordyn realized he was talking about Mila, Polo, and the hit they put out on him, she zoned in and went into therapist mode to ease his worries.

“Well... Are you scared?”

“Scared?” He scoffed. “Do I look like I’m afraid of anything?”

“You don’t. So what is it? You can tell me.”

Even though she feared what he would say, she was all ears. He had been so great to her and her mother in their time of need that she felt like the least she could do was be a listening ear for him.

“You know I'ma have to do something to your boyfriend, right?”

Jordyn took a second to process what he said to her. It took her back to when she was nine. That was one of the worst years of her life. The year she witnessed her father try to end the life of the one person she had in the world.

“I know.” She sighed. “What about your girlfriend?”

“Her too.”

Without another word, Mega removed his seatbelt and proceeded to open Jordyn’s door for her. After taking his hand and stepping down from what felt like her rightful position by his side, she fixed her sundress and walked toward the entrance with her hand in his.

“Well, if it isn’t the king and his queen making their way into the palace.” Layton joked after buzzing them in. "You two lovebirds actually look good together."

“We do, huh?” Mega laughed while he dapped her up. “My client here yet?”

“Yep. Already prepped and waiting on you.”

Layton was still skeptical of Jordyn being there. Not necessarily because of her, but because of her ties to Polo. If he knew she was at the shop, there was no telling what he might do.

Layton didn’t know whether or not he had people watching them or anything, and Mega was just lugging her around like he didn’t have money on his head. That made Layton worry.

“So, what’s up, Jordyn?” She asked, trying to make small talk while Mega went to wash up before his tat.

“Nothing much.” Jordyn sarcastically replied. “What’s up with you?”

“Look, I’m not the type to beat around the bush about shit. Mega’s my boy, and I just wanna make sure he's straight.”

Jordyn understood, and she was happy that Layton didn't beat around the bush, because she was the same way.

“I understand that, but you ain’t gotta worry about me doing anything to him like Mila. I would never hurt him in that way. He’s been too good to me so far, so I owe him the same respect.”

“Cool," Layton nodded. "Then we ain’t got nothing to worry about.”

“Oh, but we do.”

Jordyn wasn't a street chick. She had never even held a gun before. She didn't know how to set up a play or what rules to follow when it came to getting someone knocked off. But what she did know was that she cared about Mega, and she wanted to protect him in any way she could.

“And what’s that?” Layton asked, ready to go to war with her behind her best friend.

“Mila.”

At the mention of that name, Layton felt her jaw clench. She always knew Mila was grimy. She just didn’t think she was grimy enough to stoop so low.

“Yeah, that bitch gotta be dealt with," Layton said. "She done lost her damn mind. I don’t know if she's doing this to try to scare Mega, but that shit ain’t cool.”

“I got a plan." Jordyn sat back in her chair with a serious expression on her face. "I haven’t talked to Mega about it yet because I don’t really know where he stands with her. But I have something in mind.”

“What’s up?”

Layton was on the fence about trusting Jordyn and her plan, but it didn't hurt to hear her out. But before Jordyn could spill the details of what she had in mind, Mega came around the corner to head up to his client.

“You coming up?" he asked, hoping Jordyn would say yes.

“Yeah. I’ll come up and watch you do your thing.”

Layton had a client of her own to tend to, so they gave each other a look that said, We’ll talk later and parted ways.
