Stop Saying Black Americans Have No Culture—We ARE the Culture
How Our Music, Language, and Style Built the Vibe of America
Everybody wanna be Black until it's time to be Black.
It's No Secret—Black Culture Dominates
Why deny it? It's everywhere you look. Every song, every outfit, every hairstyle. Black culture even reigns supreme in corporate Amerikkka.
From music to food, our style and slang; every culture imitates the soulfulness that comes naturally to the brown and beautiful. And even though they're trying to erase the culture that shaped the world ... united we stand, divided we fall.
The Sound That Built the Culture
The first thing you think about when talking about Black culture is music—that flavorful groove responsible for the rhythm of the streets. That extra jolt of energy after having a bad day. Or the pick-me-up you need instead of that glass of wine when everything feels like it's going down.
Black Music has people from every culture wanting to be rappers, stylin' and profilin', and using that native dialect that gives every word an extra kick.
Everywhere you go, you gon' hear the cultures playlist. It's in the stores, it's on the radio. It's even in the suburban homes of good old first class Amerikkkans.
Some of the most racist countries in the world have rappers. So when you speak about culture, make sure music is at the top of the list.
Our Language Is One Of a Kind
Even though the Black tongue is rooted in challenge, our words hold weight. It's how we recognize each other in a world that blindly speaks of our existence.
The white man didn't teach the Black man English. Their vocabulary was so minute (my-noot) it was easy to take their words and make them our own.
Ain't it funny how slave masters thought a language barrier would keep the divide? Yet here we are, 406 years later, and the entire world has a case of AAVE.
You hear Black Twang in every culture—even when it sounds ridiculous. But people don't care. As long as they have a lil' bit of that brown flava, they feel like they can connect with the Gods.
No One On the Planet Has Swagger Like Us
In the 21st century, Black culture sets the tone for what becomes mainstream.
Baggy clothes, du-rags, gold-grillz, men wearing dresses, women wearing suits—our creativity bleeds on everything.
Even famous designers like Riccardo Tisci (Givenchy) have worked with artists like Young Thug, Jay Z, and Kanye West to bridge the gap between "high fashion" and what sells.
"Black is always elegant. It is the most complete color in the whole world, made of all the colors in the palette," — Riccardo Tisci, Givenchy
Black Culture Extends Everywhere
You see it everywhere — in the music, the clothes, the slang, the vibe. Black culture built the world’s playlist, dictated the dress code, and set the trends that everyone else tries to copy. Make no mistake: it starts with us, and it goes everywhere.
