CH 10 | BETWEEN LOVE AND WAR

Tension builds after the ball as Mega reveals betrayal, and Jordyn finds herself pulled deeper into his dangerous world.

Mega felt Jordyn’s eyes burning a hole in the side of his face as he sped away from the venue. He knew she wanted to know what the fuck happened at the ball to set him off, but he wasn’t in the mood to talk about it with her. He was more focused on keeping himself calm enough to not put a hole in the heads of his enemies.

“What’s the problem?” Jordyn asked, keeping her tone soft and sweet. "What did that guy tell you?"

“Nothing.”

“Don’t lie to me," she said. "I get enough of that shit from Polo. Is that what this is about? Him and Mila?"

Mega didn’t know how to tell her he wanted to kill somebody without her asking questions about his life, so he didn’t want to tell her anything at all. But Jordyn refused to let it go. When she wanted to know something, she pushed to get the answers one way or another.

“Hello?” She sassed. “Are you gonna talk to me?”

“What we talking about?”

“Why we left the ball? Why you gave your friend a gun? I mean, whichever one you wanna speak on first.”

“You saw that?”

“I did.” She slowly nodded. “What was that all about?”

He let out a heavy sigh before looking at Jordyn to remind himself how good she looked. Her good looks and sweet persona made him feel calm and worthy of love again. He knew he wasn't the best at relationships and navigating hard conversations, but Jordyn made it all so easy.

“I got word that Mila and your boy toy were plotting on me. That’s what Bonnie came over and told me before he left.”

“Mila’s friend?”

“Yep."

Jordyn felt a knot grow in her stomach. She was scared. Aside from the few times Polo had asked her to hold some drugs for him during a traffic stop, she had never been involved in anything pertaining to the street life, and she didn’t want to be. However, there was something in her gut that made her want to do whatever Mega asked of her in that situation. Even if it meant she had to carry a gun too.

“What are you gonna do?” She asked, placing her hand on his thigh.

He looked down at her hand resting close to his crotch, and it made him swell inside his slacks. He knew Jordyn wasn't a street chick, or the kind of girl who got her hands dirty, so the fact that she seemed to be down for whatever that night pulled him deeper into her web.

“What you mean?" Mega asked. "What you think I'ma do?"

“Well, I know you’re not gonna let them do anything to you or let this beef get out of control. So...”

“I ain’t gonna do anything to them either. Unless I have to.”

Jordyn was quiet the rest of the ride home. She didn’t even want to go home, but she didn’t want to leave her mom alone either. She hated that.

She loved her mom to death and wanted to help her in any way she could, but she hated not being able to live her best life because she had to take care of her.

Mega could tell she wasn’t ready to go home, because the closer they got to her house, the tighter she gripped his thigh. He thought about asking her if she wanted to go to his place, but he knew she would say she had to take care of her mom. So he waited to see if she would speak up on what it was she wanted, instead of applying too much pressure.

“I gotta make a stop real quick," he said, giving her more time to decide.

“Where we going?” Jordyn squinted.

“I'ma pick up something for your mom. Something to help her with the pain."

“Oh, my God.” Jordyn rolled her eyes because she already knew what it was. “What is it?”

“Relax," he laughed. “Just something to help with the pain she was talking about.”

They had to pass one of his shops in the hood before they got to Jordyn’s place, which was where he kept some of his weight for shipping out.

He wasn’t hurting for anything when it came to money, so sparing a brick of some of the finest weed in Miami wasn't a big deal for him. Besides, he figured having Pauline in his corner might open up different doors for more clientele.

“I’ll be right back."

He parked his Jeep and got ready to run inside without Jordyn, but she was quick in her seat.

“You’re crazy if you think I'ma sit out here by myself at night. I'm coming inside too.”

“Ain’t nobody gon’ fuck with you out here," he laughed. "But come on. I guess I can show you my shop."

Jordyn felt important walking up to his shop with him. She felt like she was in an episode of Queen of the South or Griselda, and they weren’t even going to do anything illegal. Not necessarily.

When Mega opened the doors to the shop, Jordyn’s mouth hit the floor. It didn’t look like much on the outside, and she saw why. The inside of the place looked like a king's palace where only the rich went for tattoos. And she had learned a long time ago that being flashy and loud with your assets was like asking to be robbed.

“Wow, this place is beautiful," she said.

“You like it?" Mega was surprised. "I think it's a little plain in some areas, but we make it work."

“I love it. I'ma have to come through one day and let you put some ink on my body. I don't have many tattoos."

While Mega took care of whatever he was doing upstairs, Jordyn gave herself a tour of the shop. When she got to his workstation, she took a seat in his chair.

Ran her fingers along the side of his table and did the same to the rim of the glasses he wore while tattooing. She admired him. His coolness and the fact that he was a businessman outside of being a gangster.

Ironically, Mega was the kind of guy she saw herself settling down with, even though she hated everything about the street life because of the things she saw in her childhood.

“See something you like?” he asked.

When she turned around and saw him standing in the doorway staring at her with pure lust in his eyes, Jordyn almost melted in her panties. His eyes were so deep and full of unsolved mysteries, she wanted to spend the rest of the night trying to figure him out.

“Yep.” She got up and slowly walked over to him. “You.”

“Oh yeah?" he asked seductively. "What you gonna do about it?”

He halfway expected her to shy away. Instead, she grabbed both of his hands, placed them on her hips, and went in for the kiss she had been longing for the entire night.

His lips were so soft against hers. Almost like kissing a pair of velvet sheets. The way his hands kept their grip on her hips sent chills of pleasure running down her spine. She couldn’t remember the last time a man's touch made her body quiver, and to her, that was sad.

“Mm mm. No.” She backed away from their tongue session with her eyes still closed. “You gonna make me do something I shouldn’t do on the first night.”

“Shouldn’t?" he pulled her closer. "Or don’t want to?”

“Both.” She stole a single kiss from his lips and then headed towards the door. “I’m a good girl. No sex on the first date."
